Times Wins Three O.P.C. Awards

The Times won three Overseas Press Club awards for our coverage of Ukraine and for coverage of China as seen through the lens of technology. The recognition reflects the breadth of our international coverage from our Photo, Visual Investigations, International and Business teams.

The winners are:

• Laetitia Vancon in the Feature Photography category for her photographs of Odesa, a Ukrainian city suspended between war and peace, as the Russian invasion neared;
• Li Yuan for her coverage of China’s tech titan crackdown in her column, The New New World, which won her the Flora Lewis Award for best commentary on international news;
• And Times staff for their investigative reporting into war crimes in Bucha, which won them the Joe and Laurie Dine Award for best international reporting dealing with human rights.

“This is tremendous work that underscores our commitment to shining a light on abuses and holding power to account, wherever the story takes us, anywhere in the world,” said Phil Pan, International editor.

In addition, The Times was awarded three citations or honorable mentions:

• Adriana Zehbrauskas received a citation for the Robert Capa Gold Medal Award, which recognizes the best international photojournalism requiring exceptional courage and enterprise, for “Gang Warfare Cripples Haiti’s Fight Against Cholera.”
• Juliet Macur received a citation for the Ed Cunningham Award, recognizing a long-form narrative feature, for “The Keeper,” a young woman’s story of being a soccer player under Taliban rule.
• Catherine Porter, Matt Apuzzo, Constant Méheut and Selam Gebrekidan received a citation for the Robert Spiers Benjamin Award for their investigation into Haiti’s economic misfortune and the strategic conditions that led it there.
